ASQ ANNOUNCES CERTIFIED CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN EXAM NEW SVS SEMINAR/COURSE OFFERINGS SVS 2002/2003 FISCAL YEAR PROGRAM *********************************************************************** JOINT MEETING & TOUR OF KENWORTH TRUCK FACILITY IS THE PROGRAM FOR THE MARCH MEETING OF ASQ The Program for the March 11 meeting of the Scioto Valley Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) will be a Joint Meeting with the ASQ Columbus Section and a tour of the Kenworth Truck facility just northeast of Chillicothe, Ohio. DATE AND LOCATION: The date for this dinner and tour is Tuesday, March 11, 2003. The dinner meeting and tour will take place at the Kenworth facility located on Kenworth Drive just off of Route 159 northeast of Chillicothe, Ohio. Directions are provided below. PROGRAM: Kenworth produces Class 8 trucks at their Chillicothe plant. The tour will include examples of DC tool applications, a look at the new 2002 emissions engines, the T2000 robotics (adhesive application and framer), and other areas of technical interest. The first presentation will start with a company overview delivered by the Plant Manager, Alan Mayne. The Kenworth facility is a division of PACCAR. The overview will describe PACCAR products, facilities, and their position in the global marketplace. Next, their Quality Manager, Jean-Marie Cote, and one of their Quality Assurance Supervisors, Mike Baldwin, will discuss their quality vision and goals. Jean-Marie will detail some of the quality metrics used to gauge their progress against internal goals, other corporation facilities, and external competitors. Mike Baldwin will discuss the changes in the works to drive customer focus, as required by the latest revision to ISO 9000. Finally, Jack Corder, their Master Black Belt, will discuss their Six Sigma program, including recent successes. AGENDA: Registration and networking begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. The Tour and Presentations begin at 6:45 p.m. MENU: Dinner selections are salad, a choice of ham or fried chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, roles, coffee or tea, and german chocolate cake. REGISTRATION: All Scioto Valley Section affiliates, other local ASQ members and anyone interested in the Society or the subjects of quality or continuous improvement are encouraged to attend. ASQ members holding certifications earn 0.3 re-certification units (RUs) for attending the tour. Registration is required by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7. The charge for the dinner is $16. Specific locations and instructors for the courses will be established on the basis of geographic location of the student core and the type of certification. The Section has established a cadre of Certified Instructors for these courses. A desired minimum of five (5) students is usually required for a class to be scheduled, however, it is left to the discretion of the instructor if he/she will instruct fewer. It is possible that if a company decides to train near or above the minimum, the course could be offered at that facility as long as the instructor is willing and the facility has an adequate training facility. The instructors, with input from the students, will determine the days and times for each course.
