Local members and guests of The Scioto Valley Section (SVS) of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) are invited to a buffet dinner and a series of presentations focusing on the SVSection and our Section volunteers and members. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the speakers during the registration and networking period and dinner. The presentations are designed to address the progress of SVS from a small 9 county Subsection to a fully sanctioned ASQ Section serving 16 counties in 3 states. The relaxed agenda for this meeting will allow each of the speakers to present awards to deserving Section members/volunteers and to provide interesting information from the perspective of the Past, the Present and the Future of the Scioto Valley Section. PROGRAM The featured speakers are: Bob Rinderman: Bob is a Registered Professional Engineer (PE); ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) and Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA); ASQ Fellow; Deputy Region 8 Director; Founding Chair and a Director of SVS. Bob will give a short introduction in which he will recall a few events and anecdotes from the founding of the Section and will present SVS Founders Awards to several members. John B. Shewbrooks, Jr.: John is an ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA); 3 time US National Hydroplane Champion with the American Power Boat Association (APBA); current APBA Category Chairman; SVS Charter Member and current SVS Chair. John will give us his summary End of Fiscal Year Report for the Section and distribute awards for ASQ members who have contributed to the efforts of the Section across the last 12 months. Tim Matchett: Tim holds 5 ASQ Certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA),Mechanical Inspector (CMI), Quality Technician (CQT), Quality Auditor (CQA)and Quality Engineer (CQE). He is an ASQ Senior Member; SVS Charter Member; Founding Secretary/Vice Chair; first full-term Chair of SVS and current Chair Elect/Incoming Section Chair. Tim will discuss his organization, plans and aspirations for the direction of the Section for the next ASQ Fiscal Year starting July 1, 2003. AGENDA Registration and Networking begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:00 p.m. The charge for the dinner is $15.00. The program follows a brief Section business meeting after dinner. Dinner selections will consist of Fried Chicken, Potato Cheese Casserole, Green Beans, Tossed Salad, Bread, Tea/Lemonade, and Surprise Dessert. All Scioto Valley Section affiliates, other local ASQ members and anyone interested in the Society or the subjects of quality or continuous improvement are encouraged to attend. ASQ members holding certification earn 0.3 re-certification units (RUs) for attending the program. Directions are provided below. On behalf of your Section Executive Committee, Your Section Program Chair ASQ Scioto Valley Section # 815 ASQ's First Section of the New Millennium *********************************************************************** NEWSLETTER CHAIR NEEDED The ASQ Scioto Valley Section needs a Newsletter Chair. Our current Chair will not be able to continue in this position for the upcoming fiscal year due to other commitments and obligations. We need an equally capable individual from within the Section to take his place. The responsibilities of this position primarily are the collection, editing and/or writing of materials for the monthly newsletter and its distribution using established electronic mailing lists. Duties may also include photography of Section programs and other activities and periodic input of materials to the Internet Liaison for posting to the Section's web site. Some sharing of work and liaison with the Section's Publicity Chair also is involved. As a member of the Executive Committee, the Newsletter Chair is asked to attend its monthly planning meeting, usually held at the Chillicothe campus of Ohio University. This meeting lasts only 1.5 or 2 hours each month. Committee members earn RUs toward re-certification. Why become a Senior Member of ASQ? Achieving Senior membership in ASQ is an indication of professional growth and accomplishment in the quality profession or the allied arts and sciences. There are many members of the Scioto Valley Subsection who may be eligible for advancement to the elected grade of ASQ Senior Member. Senior members enjoy a number of advantages and the upgrade is easy to accomplish. Senior members receive all of the regular member benefits plus: · A Senior member certificate, card, and lapel pin. · Recognition of your achievement through an announcement in Quality Advocate, ASQ's monthly newsletter. · Special Senior member name badge at ASQ events that you attend. · Your choice of one extra benefit journal, one Division, or an additional section free of charge as part of your Senior member benefit package. What are the requirements? 1. Have ten years of active professional experience. Up to four years of the requirement may be satisfied by graduation from an accredited institution. 2. Be a Member in good standing for at least one year prior to the date of application. 3. Have qualified in one of the ways described below: a. Conducted quality-related engineering, inspection or audit, or statistical work, or applying the methods and principles of quality on the job for at least two years. b. Teaching quality or related arts and sciences at an accredited institution for at least two years. c. Being a Senior Member or comparable grade in a recognized professional engineering, technical, or scientific society." d. Currently holding an ASQ certification that requires recertification. The cost of Senior Membership is $99.00 per year, only $17.00 more than regular member grade ASQ membership. The cost of the membership pin combined with the cost of the quarterly journal subscription included with Senior membership would cost from $50.00 to $80.00 extra for a regular member. Specific locations and instructors for the courses will be established on the basis of geographic location of the student core and the type of certification. The Section has established a cadre of Certified Instructors for these courses. A desired minimum of five (5) students is usually required for a class to be scheduled, however, it is left to the discretion of the instructor if he/she will instruct fewer. It is possible that if a company decides to train near or above the minimum, the course could be offered at that facility as long as the instructor is willing and the facility has an adequate training facility. The instructors, with input from the students, will determine the days and times for each course.
