JUNE ISO9000:2000 POCKETGUIDE CLAIMED A Section member claimed the June pocket guide by entering his membership number successfully. As such, a new number is now activated. We have three guides left. We'll leave this new number active until we can discuss at the July Executive Committee the future status of this program To find out if you have won this handy training and study tool, visit the ASQSVS web site. Somewhere on the web site there is an entry box asking that you enter your ASQ membership number. You will know immediately if you are a winner. The winning membership number each month is computer generated randomly from the ASQ roster of members formally affiliated with the Scioto Valley Section. You must be affiliated with the Scioto Valley Section to be eligible. Those who join (new or via transfer) the Section become part of the database of eligible winners, and could take possession of one of these pocket guides. The elected officers of the Section are not eligible for this monthly offering. Written by Dennis Arter and J. P. Russell, top ISO 9000 auditors and key participants in standards authoring bodies, this training and study tool discusses quality, its measurable characteristics, and the role of customer requirements in all quality management systems. Using the ISO 9001:2000 Draft International Standard as the model, each ISO clause (and its key concepts), the ISO process approach, and the Quality Management Principles are explained. TRANSITIONS Angi Pennington, SVS Treasurer, has accepted a position with Dow Chemical in Midland, Michigan. She will be moving to Michigan in the near future. Best of luck on the new job and WE’RE GOING TO MISS YOU ANGI! EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION What is the function of the Placement Chair? The Placement Chair serves as a liaison between regional industries and ASQ Scioto Valley Section members who are seeking employment opportunities in the quality field. Although the principle focus of the Placement Chair is the Section Member who is seeking a new position due to loss of employment, the Chair may also serve the Section Member with interest in a career move to a more responsible position in the quality field with enhanced opportunity for personal and professional growth. Who is the current Placement Chair? The Scioto Valley Section Placement Chair is John Cormier, Business Development Manager with the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) in Piketon. John can be reached at: E-mail: cormierje@ports.usec.com Phone: (740) 897-2423 Fax: (740) 897-2459 How is information on regional career opportunities disseminated? As new regional job opportunities in the quality field are identified, these listings are posted to the ASQ Scioto Valley Section Web Site, and are routinely published in the monthly Scioto Valley Section Newsletter. In addition, the Placement Chair has established and maintains a comprehensive network of contacts with regional recruiters and area staffing professionals who may be looking for candidates for assignments in the quality field. Personal contact with the Placement Chair may produce worthwhile leads to the prospective job seeker. The Placement Chair also maintains a confidential database containing the names of interested Scioto Valley Section Members as well as the names of regional employers who staff positions in the quality field. Interested Scioto Valley Section members may post to this confidential database at any time, or may query the regional industry data file to focus their job search. No information on file in the database will be released without that individual’s written authorization. Additional information is also available at http://www.asq.org/net/career/. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR July 1, 2001 Greetings to all SVS members, friends and affiliates: As your new Section Chair for 2001-2002, I approach this coming fiscal year with anticipation, trepidation and enthusiasm for the honor and office which I now represent. Our immediate Past Chair, Tim Matchett, held this office with dignity and grace, (almost always under pressure) and I look to his continued guidance and support in the coming year. Our first Section Chair (and first Section ASQ Fellow), Bob Rinderman, has also agreed to continue on in his role as Section Director. Therefore, I am confident that with these two fine gentlemen assisting me during this transitional phase, I will be able to build upon their past successes, implement new successes and achieve new milestones for the Scioto Valley Section of ASQ. These past successes and the strong foundation upon with they were built, has only been possible with the help of our tireless Executive Committee members, some of whom are now moving on with their careers. A heartfelt thanks to Grant Germann and Angi Pennington for all of their time, work, mileage and professionalism which they brought to the Executive Committee. Our success as a fledgling chapter of ASQ was secured by their (many times) extra and unrecognized efforts. We all wish them the best in their future endeavors. This new season of business of Section 815 promises to be of benefit for all members of our 17 county district, and will provide a challenge for our new executive committee. First of all, we will be moving our monthly Executive Committee Meeting to pre-arranged locations throughout our District. This will give everyone an opportunity to become familiar with local area networks, attract new Executive Committee members and hopefully, attract new and existing ASQ Section 815 members to our monthly programs. Increasing attendance at these monthly functions is a personal goal, and taking the message to the people is key to our future success as a Chapter. Goodwill Tours: Along with a few other Executive Committee Members, we will visit companies within our district to introduce ourselves, ASQ services and benefits of membership to their organizations. Tuesday/Thursday Meetings: To accommodate the Medical and Education communities within the SVS District, we will stagger the monthly dinner/tour meetings to attract their attendance at these quality-oriented events. Executive Committee Member Search: Since we have a few select opening for these voluntary seatings, I will be calling a variety of members to secure their support and assisted leadership. These openings include: Arrangements Chair, Publicity Chair, Certification/Recertification Chair Educational Programs: There is an abundance of talent within our local membership, those as educators, instructors, mentors and counselors. Let us know what you can do to help teach others within the district. So, as you can see, the year ahead is an ambitious and exciting one. We hope you can share in our future continued success as “The First Section of the New Millennium”. Have a safe and happy summer! Sincerely, Cynthia L. Davis Section Chair 2001-2002
