Earlier this year we conducted the Annual Member Survey as part of our Section Management Plan (SMP). Unfortunately, the survey, as well as all of the resultant data, was lost when our ISP server failed. We need to repeat the survey as soon as possible to comply with the SMP. SEPTEMBER MEETING TOPIC IS CONTINUING EDUCATION First Dinner Meeting of the 2001/2002 Season to be held by Section 815, Scioto Valley Section, on September 18, 2001 at the XT-801 building at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, Ohio. Starting at: * 5:00 pm with Predinner Clinic - Video Tape “Carving A Career in Quality" providing an interesting look at management’s role in causing their organizations, employees, and suppliers to be successful. Additionally, information on continuing education opportunities from regional colleges and universities will be presented. * 5:30 pm Registration & Networking * 6:00 pm Dinner * 6:45 pm Section Business * 7:00 pm Speaker - Wes Richardson with the Quality Council of Indiana.... Coming from the North (Waverly & Chillicothe) on Route 23 Exit right off Route 23 at the overpass (watch for the Enrichment Plant sign) approximately (2.25) miles south of the intersection of Route 32, south of Piketon. Continue straight ahead to the traffic signal. Turn right on the Perimeter Road (you are now in the West Quadrant of the road that circles the Enrichment Plant). Travel South and then East on the Perimeter Road (until you reach the South-East Quadrant) and Hewes Avenue on your left. Turn Left. XT-801 is the first building on your left off Hewes Ave. Turn left into the parking lot, and come around to the back door on the South Side of the Building. Coming from the East (Jackson & Athens) on Route 32 Watch for the Enrichment Plant sign and exit left off Route 32 at Shyville Road (also watch for a BP Service Station on the right at the same intersection). Continue straight ahead on Shyville Road (becomes North Access Road at the property boundary of the Enrichment Plant reservation)to the stop sign. Turn Left on the Perimeter Road (you are now in the North Quadrant of the road that circles the Enrichment Plant). Travel East and then South on the Perimeter Road (until you reach the South-East Quadrant) and Hewes Avenue on your right. Turn Right. XT-801 is the first building on your left off Hewes Ave. Turn left into the parking lot, and come around to the back door on the South Side of the Building. “BRIDGING QUALITY, TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT BEST PRACTICES” THEME OF ANNUAL SVS FALL CONFERENCE The first Annual SVS Fall Conference to be held on October 27th at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio will examine how the issues of quality interact and are influenced by technology and best management practices. The Department of Industrial and Engineering Technologies at Shawnee State is the on-campus sponsor. John Cachat, Pres. IQS, Inc. will be one of the keynote speakers. Case Studies will address Knowledge Management and Quality and Customer Service in Government Agencies. Workshops include The Care and Feeding of Quality Professional and An Overview of New Quality Standards and Revisions (ISO/TS16949, ISO 9000:2000, ISO 17025, etc). Registration fee includes a continental breakfast and catered luncheon and breaks. The registration fee is $75.00. Groups of 3 or more from the same institution can save an additional $10.00. The Placement Chair serves as a liaison between regional industries and ASQ Scioto Valley Section members who are seeking employment opportunities in the quality field. Although the principle focus of the Placement Chair is the Section Member who is seeking a new position due to loss of employment, the Chair may also serve the Section Member with interest in a career move to a more responsible position in the quality field with enhanced opportunity for personal and professional growth. In addition, the Placement Chair has established and maintains a comprehensive network of contacts with regional recruiters and area staffing professionals who may be looking for candidates for assignments in the quality field. Personal contact with the Placement Chair may produce worthwhile leads to the prospective job seeker. The Placement Chair also maintains a confidential database containing the names of interested Scioto Valley Section Members as well as the names of regional employers who staff positions in the quality field. Interested Scioto Valley Section members may post to this confidential database at any time, or may query the regional industry data file to focus their job search. I am very happy to announce the final plans and arrangements for our First “Annual Fall Conference” to be hosted by Shawnee State University, Department of Industrial and Engineering Technologies. If you read through the ASQ/SVS Newsletter, you will find detailed information on the conference and registration form attached. Our Theme this year is: “Bridging Quality, Technology and Management Best Practices”. I am sure that the quality of workshops, case studies and Key Note addresses will provide the attendee with solid help, hints, tips, best practices and advise from regional industry practitioners, renown business entrepreneurs and educators. So come and enjoy a beautiful fall day in southern Ohio, to one of the best kept secrets in the area (Shawnee State) and learn from the best and brightest our area has to offer. Speaking of educators, our kick-off monthly Dinner Meeting commences on Tuesday, September 18, 2001, The theme is "The Quality Professional - A Quest for Continuing Education", with our featured speaker, Wes Richardson from the Quality Council of Indiana. We will preface the Dinner Meeting with a pre-dinner clinic with a viewing of Phil Crosby’s newest video “Carving a Career in Quality”. To top it off, we have invited representatives from Shawnee State, Rio Grande, OU-Lancaster, and other regional institutions to this event. You will have the opportunity to learn about their programs focusing on the “Adult Learner”. Overall, I think this will be an evening well spent.
