Registration will begin at 5:00 p.m. Ms. Sheryl Morris Meyer then will present "Performance Excellence in the Huntington District" beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a tour of the facility including the Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Center. Dinner will follow the tour at the Four Seasons Restaurant, located at 905 Third Avenue (at Ninth Street), just three blocks from the district headquarters building. The Section recommends that participants use a parking garage at the corner of Eighth Street and Third Avenue, and then walk to the district headquarters for the program and tour. Shortly before 7:00 p.m., following the presentation and tour, the group will walk from the district headquarters to the Four Seasons Restaurant. Participants then will be only one block from their vehicles following dinner. The evening will conclude between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m. with a very brief business meeting and closing remarks following dinner. A map indicating the downtown Huntington sites is on the Scioto Valley Section's web site at http://www.asqsvs.org/images/May_meeting_map.gif. To find out if you have won this handy training and study tool, visit the ASQSVS web site. Somewhere on the web site there is an entry box asking that you enter your ASQ membership number. You will know immediately if you are a winner. After April we will be giving away four more copies, two in May and two in June. The winning membership number each month is computer generated randomly from the ASQ roster of members formally affiliated with the Scioto Valley Section. You must be affiliated with the Scioto Valley Section to be eligible. Those who join (new or via transfer) the Section become part of the database of eligible winners, and could take possession of one of these pocket guides. The elected officers of the Section are not eligible for this monthly offering. Written by Dennis Arter and J. P. Russell, top ISO 9000 auditors and key participants in standards authoring bodies, this training and study tool discusses quality, its measurable characteristics, and the role of customer requirements in all quality management systems. Using the ISO 9001:2000 Draft International Standard as the model, each ISO clause (and its key concepts), the ISO process approach, and the Quality Management Principles are explained. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR The feature on the Scioto Valley Section web site feature that provides free copies of "The ISO Lesson Guide 2000: A Pocket Guide to Q9001:2000" has been restored, but the April book has not been claimed. We have four more to give away before the end of June. David Shields, Senior Lead Auditor for Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Certification, Inc., provided the Section with an interesting and timely program April 10 about the ISO 9000:2000 standards; the interrelationships of ISO 9000, 9001 and 9004; and management principles of ISO 9000 and 9004. The Section extends its thanks to David for this program, and to our Program and Arrangements Chair, Sandy Endicott, for making it possible. John Cormier, our Placement Chair and pending Section Chair-Elect, provided an outstanding pre-dinner clinic on the subject of "Web Based Resources for Career Planning." John used a wireless Internet connection made possible by Internet Liaison Wade Midkiff to provide actual view of sites that offer various types of assistance in employment searches and career planning. During the evening, ASQ Region 8 Deputy Director Bob Rinderman presented John Cormier and John Nemeth with their ASQ Senior Member certificates. In May, we go to Huntington for a tour of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers' Huntington District Headquarters including the CAD area and the Customer Service Center. Our host is Section member Sheryl Morris Meyer. Dinner follows at a local restaurant. In June, we'll be in the Chillicothe area for a "Quality in Health Care" program. I look forward to seeing you at each of these programs. Tim Matchett Section Chair 2000-2001 ASQ Scioto Valley Section
